SALTION SEA
Once a vacation destination and leisure haven, the Salton Sea has become a nearly deserted wasteland due to the extremely high salinity levels in the sea. It is ages ahead of its time. It has taken the man-made components, and evolved with them into a post human sea. This study was one of several in an effort to devise a material appropriate for intervention and integration into the post-human status of the Salton Sea.
Parallel City
The framework, a three-mile long parallel wall crossing the Sea, is designed to continue to blur the line of the natural and artificial, the human and post human. The variety of spaces within would allow the nomadic society of the Salton Sea to dwell within and continue to evolve in it’s own accord. Its materiality serves as a natural mechanism filtering the salt out of the sea.
Salt Filtering Concrete
The concrete studied below shows how this particular material is able to draw out the salt in the water it sits in. The concrete in this case becomes just another natural component the Salton Sea evolves with.
